Roger Caranci's Platform
Leadership. Experience. Common Sense.
Safe Streets
- Prohibit illegal drugs from entering taxpayer-funded shelters. Drugs put everybody at risk, especially children and people staying sober.
- Empower by-law officers with authority to enforce rules more effectively in public spaces.
- Where necessary, pair by-law enforcement with police officers so rules can be enforced safely and consistently.
- Clean parks and public spaces more often. Remove garbage, graffiti, needles, tents, and dog waste.
Support police. Enforce by-laws. No open drug-use or tent cities.
Transparency and Accountability
- Execute service contracts directly with groups doing work.
- If taxpayer money must go through intermediary organizations, Councillors must have access to financial statements without special requests.
- Make funding conditional upon open books and proven results.
Citizens deserve to know how their tax dollars are being spent.
Roads and Transit
- No bike lanes on Hamilton Road. Parking spaces help to calm traffic and support business.
- Bring tap-to-pay and mobile payments to London Transit so riders are not stuck with cash-only fares.
- Eliminate simultaneous construction of major parallel arteries and use overnight construction.
Keep people moving without needless delay.
Back to Basics
- Weekly garbage pickup in the summer and in high-need areas, where overflowing bins attract rodents.
- Launch a driveway entry clearing program for seniors after major snowfalls, so older residents are not trapped by plow piles.
- Repair potholes, plow snow, cut grass, clear weeds, and maintain parks.
Focus on the fundamentals that citizens rely on.
Affordable Housing
- Partner with established nonprofit housing providers to build multi-bedroom affordable housing for local families.
- Build senior-specific residences so seniors can downsize while staying in their own neighbourhood and close to family.
- Tighten occupancy standards by-laws so houses are not packed with too many people.
Build homes that respect neighbourhoods and fit the community.
